"Drawing Restraint 9," the latest film by Matthew Barney, has finally arrived after a three year blank. This film has received critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival, as well as at a Premiere showing in the summer of 2005 in the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
Matthew Barney reigns at the top of contemporary art with a wide variety of unique expressions and experiences. Entering Yale University with a sport scholarship, he has studied medicine, art, and has even worked as a fashion model. For almost 20 years, he has applied the creative and physical aspects of his methodology to express the restraints and freedoms of life.
The "Drawing Restraint" series is the culmination of those years. He came to Japan to shoot this documentary film with Björk, his partner and now mother of their daughter. This passionate and romantic love story features some topics based on Japanese culture, such as whale hunting and tea ceremony, to the backdrop of Björk's powerful music. They even appear in the film together as westerners on a whale hunting boat who fall in love with each other. Don't miss this amazing film!
