"The Dazzle of Venetian Painting - From the Glory of the Renaissance to the Splendour of the 18th Century" Exhibition

Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished
Venice is the city that floats on water, and was made a World Heritage Site in 1987. The city established its own political leadership, and between the 7th and 18th centuries existed as an independent republic, prospering from its trade with both the East and West, while also developing as a city of art.

Venetian painting stands out for its beautiful colour. In contrast to the artists in Firenze, who concentrated on the use of lines in their sketches, the Venetian painters established and developed a style that centered on the use of colour. Focussing on the golden period of Venetian painting from the 15th to the 18th centuries, this exhibition is divided into the following three parts: 1) Religion - Myth - Symbolism; 2) Venetian leadership, 3) City Sceneries.
