Masashi Kuroiwa, Niki de Saint Phalle
Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) was a French painter, sculpture and filmmaker. Inspired by architect Gaudí´s Parc Güell in Barcelona, de Saint Phalle decided that she also wanted to create a monumental sculptor park created by a single artist. In 1979, she acquired some land in Garavicchio, Tuscany, about 100km northwest of Rome along the coast. The garden, called "The Tarot Garden", contains sculptures of the symbols found on Tarot cards. The garden took many years and a considerable sum of money to complete. It opened in 1998 after 20 years of planning and work. Japanese photographer Masashi Kuroiwa has traveled to Italy to extensively photograph the garden. This exhibition coincides with the publication of a book of Kuroiwa's photographs, which is published exactly 10 years after the garden was completed.
