Yodogawa Technique
Yodogawa Technique is an art unit founded in 2003 by Hideaki Shibata and Kazuya Matsunaga. They are based out of the river terraces of Yodogawa in Osaka, creating artworks using flotsam, driftwood and other waste materials. Their startling performances involve making unbelievable models and sculptural pieces that bear almost no resemblance to their original form as garbage. Technique are also known making work during residencies in different places while interacting with the locals, winning much attention and acclaim for this sort of community work projects at the Pusan Biennale 2006, the "Kita!" contemporary Japanese art exhibition held in Indonesia this spring, as well as their participation in Geisai 5, for which they received a Silver award, and the Kirin Art Project 2005, where they won the Grand Prix.
This exhibition features their remarkable "sculptures" as well as photographic works. They are also exhibiting concurrently at the Eco Art Festa Osaka and the Kawasaki City Citizens Museum.
