After graduating from Nagoya University for the Arts and the Contemporary Art Center OCA Kitakyushu, Watabe participated in a residence program at the latter institution. Since then, he has been active both in Japan and abroad, exhibiting his work at "Cafe in Mito" at Art Tower Mito in 2004, while also getting involved with Air Antwerpen in Belgium the following year. At the end of last year, a book of his work was published by a Danish gallery.
Taking universal themes such as forests and women as his main motifs, Watabe has produced drawings with a precise, delicate touch, evoking memories that stream through each viewer's mind, a common pool of consciousness that exists within the passage of time.
Bringing the same concept to this series entitled "Visions", Watabe creates a space similar to a visual structure, which reminds viewers of their respective 'memories' accumulating over time.
Approximately 15 drawings and mixed media works will be on view.
