August 15th this year marks the anniversary commemorating the end of WWII. For some, however, it is more correctly the anniversary that marks defeat in the war. On February 3rd, 1946, GHQ director MacArthur presented the three general principles of the Japanese constitution. The Japanese constitution today was established according to these principles.
Revision of the constitution is starting to unravel from the entrenched and immobile structure of "country-GHQ-emperor". At present, Douglas MacArthur is still a stubborn and tenacious influence. In this sense, time is still at a standstill even over 60 years after the end of the war.
This 5 day show is Morishita's attempt to question the relationship between the rail of postwar Japan and the irresponsible democracy in place today. These installation works and get-togethers are an opportunity to rethink these salient issues.
