The Japan Design Committee is hosting an exhibition entitled Gifu Prefecture Oribe Design Center Hida Furniture Project "Furniture for Personal Use' 6 Designers Exhibition".
This exhibition introduces the results of monozukuri (shop-floor) project, which has been realized by bringing together technical capabilities of Hidatakayama, the region famous for its furniture industry, and designing skills of Japan Design Committee members.
Gifu Economic and Industrial Promotion Center (Oribe Design Center), furniture manufacturers of Hidatakayama (Kagu Kobo Kijisha, Nisshin Mokko, Hida Sangyo) and 6 Committee members (Kenya Hara, Shinji Iwasaki, Motomi Kawakami, Shin Matsunaga, Kaoru Mende, Taku Sato) collaborated on "furniture for personal use". 6 members designed their respective work with specific places and settings in mind. Then, the manufacturers gathered intended meanings and significances of all designs and repeatedly produced prototypes for about a year with intent to distribute them eventually. This exhibition showcases 6 pieces of furniture that the 6 Committee members designed. They will be sold by subscription at the venue also.
