Silke Schöner exhibition

Silke Schöner
Silke Schöner's landscapes seem to be a sort of incomplete jigsaw puzzle. Facing the canvas, our senses are prompted to fill in the blank parts regardless of whether we already have a complete image of the scenery or not. The viewer, not the artist, completes the work by traveling through time and space to find pieces of the puzzle that have been intentionally taken away from the canvas.
The reality of the image we see, and the impression of that image we entertain in our mind. What is really there, what point does it change from reality to non-reality,, and what is the difference between the two? Such are the recurring concerns in Schöner's work.
Her first solo exhibition at the Dillon Gallery in New York in the summer of 2007 was a big success. This new collection of 10 oil paintings, mainly of landscapes, will be on display at Gallery Strenger in Tokyo for the first time.
