Artists

Tomomi Hikatsu
Born in Nagano prefecture in 1969, Tomomi Hikatsu graduated from Tama Art University in 1993 and thereafter embarked on a career as a copper-engraving artist. She has created a poetic world of her own by combining methods from various media such as etching, aquatint and drypoint.
Hikatsu's work grows out of constant conversations between herself and the innermost recesses of her own mind. A tranquil feeling of warmth and sense of humor emerge out of her surfaces consisting of simple forms, sensitive line work and subdued color. The abundant lyricism in her pictorial space has gained much attention both in Japan and abroad, winning awards at the international picture book exhibition in Bologna.
Constantly in search of new modes of expression, Hikatsu started creating oil paintings last year. Approximately 20 new oil works will be on view.
