Lucille Reyboz "Chroniques Japonaises"

Institut français du Japon - Yokohama
Finished

Artists

Lucille Reyboz
Influenced by her childhood spent in Africa, Lucille Reyboz is fascinated by the animistic rites of Japan, her adopted country. Her photos capture a unique relationship that binds man to nature, seized in moments that are often arrestingly intimate. Through portraits of bodies that surrender to the joys of hot springs across the changing seasons, Reyboz paints a unique and moving picture of Japan.

These works evoke the symbolic aspect of this ritual cleansing, a purification of the body. At a more unconscious level, however, they also demonstrate the human desire to relive something that approaches an original, formative experience.
