Kio Yoneda
Kio Yoneda is a photographer who works mainly for fashion and music magazines. His clear pictorial compositions and beautifully-colored fashion images have won him a solid reputation. Instead of the fickleness of passing trends, Yoneda places a strong emphasis on capturing reality. His polished depictions envelop his subjects in a gentle glow, and impart a faint sense of happiness thanks to their somewhat feminine naivete.

Apart from his career as a photographer, Yoneda also has musical aspirations. He has long been interested in South American music and the way in which it is strongly tied to vernacular topography and other local characteristics. Fascinated in particular by Cuba, he visited the country for the first time this March, staying mostly in Havana and taking vivid portraits of numerous landscapes.

This exhibition features around 40 recent prints focusing on images from his recent trip to Cuba. The title, "Fifty," refers not only to the 50th anniversary of the Cuban revolution this year, but also to Yoneda's preferred 50mm lens, with its field of view that most closely approximates the human field of vision. In addition, Yoneda is exhibiting an object installation as a gesture of sympathy for the work of fashion designer Kazuhisa Komura, who is releasing a Che Guevara-inspired collection this spring/summer.
