Hiroshi Ohira
Galerie Tokyo Humanité will be hosting Hiroshi Ohira's first solo exhibition in Tokyo.

Born in 1961, Ohira mainly works as graphic designer for which he has received several awards including the Asahi Advertisement Award and the Mainichi Advertisement Design Award. He has also been working on his personal work of wooden sculptures made of Japanese cypress depicting androgynous figures that bring fantastic stories to mind.

Ohira asserts that the reason he began to work as a sculptor was because he saw a close relationship between the process of selecting wood for his sculptures and that for selecting material for his graphic design. To generate new forms by coming into direct contact with the wood, with the smell of it, and by carving it with a cutter knife. Ohira's sculptural work seems to create a perfect balance with his other profession as a graphic designer.

This will be his first show in Tokyo.
