The 40th Kodansha Publishing Cultural Awards included categories in illustration, book design, picture book and photography, and were given to creators of the most prominent works featured in books, magazines and newspapers issued between March 2008 and February 2009. One winner in this year's photography category was an underwater photographer Yukihiko Otsuka. While Otsuka deals with serious issues surrounding the underwater environment and the cyclical nature of life, his work brings a smile to the viewer's face with images of sea creatures that skillfully work dumped refuse into their lives. Around 25 color photographs are on view.
