Kazuo Shiraga
Kazuo Shiraga (1924-2008) was the pioneer of action painting in Japan. He is one of the most representative artists of the Gutai Art Association and is a key figure in the history of Japanese post-war art. Shiraga achieved an unprecedented visual quality by placing a canvas on the floor and sliding over it with paint on his feet. This exhibition will commemorate his death in 2008 showcasing around 50 paintings including Shiraga's most renowned series.
