First held in autumn 2007, the Aosando Art Fair was named for the two streets that anchor the area it was held in, Aoyama Dori and Omotesando. The fair aimed to get visitors off the main streets that they've walked a hundred times and to have them drop into the little alleyways leading off them. Various artworks were displayed and offered for sale in local stores full of character. The event attracted more than two-and-a-half times the normal foot traffic to the area, and the reception party saw visitors spill out onto the adjacent streets in a crowd of rare exuberance: Aosando Art Fair goers spent time checking out shops they would ordinarily not go into, or chatting directly with the artists. These well-worn shopping areas have gotten a new lease of life with art, and the Art Fair is being held again this year!
