"Teratotera Unveiling Ceremony"

Teratotera is a collaborative art initiative between the Tokyo Culture Creation Project, organized by the City of Tokyo and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, and the independent contemporary art space Art Center Ongoing located in Kichijoji. Starting this spring, Teratotera will begin initiating a range of art-related projects closely tied to the local communities in the areas of Suginami Ward and Musashino City that span the Kichijoji-Koenji stations on the JR Chuo line.

This area has long been home to many artists and writers, and is currently enjoying a new wave of popularity among young people. The bustling towns that line this section of the Chuo line are constantly abuzz with activity and crowds of people both young and old. Although the area is rich in cultural facilities such as galleries and theaters, there has been little coordinated activity and cultural connection between the area as a whole, and many of these activities carry on independently and in isolation from one another. Teratotera hopes to "join the dots" and boost the standard and visibility of the artistic life in the area and promote activities that will stimulate the lives and sensibilities of local residents.
