Does our over-illuminated world, in banishing shadows, lose its appreciation of darkness? So writes Junichiro Tanizaki in his 1933 essay 'In Praise of Shadows' 「陰翳礼賛」 which celebrates the subtle tones and textures of traditional Japanese dwellings and the way of life they embody. We extend these observations outdoors in the present exhibition, with 20 photogravure etchings by Peter Miller 'in praise of shadows'.
