Yusuke Shibata is a young artist who has been exhibiting work in a wide variety of media since completing graduate studies at Musashino Art University. His practice is concerned with the profusion of superficial images in contemporary society, images that can be found everywhere but are tied to no specific place - the glaring lighting in 24 hour convenience stores, computer generated advertisements for ready-built houses, the muted lighting that adds a stylish touch to urban life, and more. By manipulating these artificial, interchangeable images that cling to the surfaces of our modern metropolises, Shibata has created a body of singular work.
This exhibition showcases the magical world of Shibata's work, in which everyday mundane landscapes are transformed into something altogether extraordinary.
