Artists

Akira Kataoka
Akira Kataoka is perhaps best known as a puppet theater artist for "Hyokkori Hyoutan-Jima," which screened on NHK from 1964 to 1969. In addition to producing puppets since 1950 for the Kawasaki-based theater group Hitomiza, Kataoka also creates various sculptural and 2D works that he has exhibited at solo gallery shows since 1976. Almost entirely self-taught, his work has always existed apart from the mainstream art world. This exhibition focuses on his well-loved puppets, as well as a selection of his other astonishing artworks.
