"A Wife's Secret Paintings: Fuki Sekiya's World" Exhibition

Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts
Finished

Artists

Fuki Sekiya
Fuki Sekiya (1903-1969) was born in Tochigi Prefecture and lost her parents and brother at a young age. After marrying she supported her painter husband as he taught while entering work into the annual Nitten exhibition. However, she never exhibited any of her own work in her lifetime and people never even saw her working. This exhibition re-discovers this hidden talent and introduces around 190 of her paintings, alongside those of her husband Yo Sekiya and his father, the Nihonga artist Ungai Sekiya.
