Keiko Masumoto was born in 1982, in Hyogo prefecture. She received her master’s degree in ceramics at the Kyoto City University of Arts in 2007. Masumoto currently lives in Hyogo prefecture. In 2009, she received the grand prize in the plastic/installation category at the Tokyo Wonderwall, and had her work exhibited in “The Power of Decoration - A Viewpoint on Contemporary Kôgei (Studio Crafts)”at the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo. She is now widely noticed as a spirited artist, and in 2011, she held a one-man show “Collections II Form in Art – Touch and Sense the Piece Masumoto Keiko”at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art. She also joined the “Works in Ceramic” (Toyota Municipal Museum of Art).
Masumoto has always been making vivid and striking expressions through her creations, such as daringly uniting the “model” of traditional ceramics, and motifs like animals and modern architectures. Her sculptural molding techniques and fine painting skills support the attempt to accord and at the same time destroy the framework of potteries and art objects.
This is her second solo exhibition at Gallery Jin, and we are planning to have around 7 new works exhibited. These include interesting art works with western motifs, affected by her stay Philadelphia in 2010.
