Artists

Hiroshi Matsuyama
Hiroshi Matsuyama is an artist who seeks out the relation between the figure and ground through painting. In his early days he created 2d works which gave particular emphasis to color and form, and then went on to develop a series of more sculptural works. No matter what the form, he has determined to take up the structure of his surface and through the balance between figure and ground, offering up perspectives in numerous directions and forming a space which appears to direct the view of the audience. In this particular exploration of figure and ground he examines the sense of distance through the relation of surface and minimal marking, creating an installation which ties together 2d and 3d perspective.
