The treasure of France's Musée de Cluny "The Lady and the Unicorn" is a tapestry of 6 panels produced around 1500. With references to this work by the 19th century artists Prosper Mérimée and George Sand, amongst others, much attention came to surround this historic tapestry. 5 of these large scale millefleur panels describe the five sense of touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight but the remaining panel is inscribed with "My One Desire" stirring much speculation as to its meaning and possible reference to love, knowledge or marriage. This work has only been loaned outside of France upon one previous occasion in 1974 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This exhibition presents all 6 panels for the first time in Japan, along with a range of sculpture, accessories and stained glass which reflect the motif of animals, plants and young women, with 40 works carefully selected from the Musée de Cluny collection.
