Artists

Satoshi Yabuuchi
The sculptor Satoshi Yabuuchi treats the subject of children with humor, expressing the concepts of “soul,” “spirit,” and “energy” in his works. He designed the popular character “Sento-kun” for a festival celebrating the 1300th anniversary of the relocation of the capital to ancient Nara, and has been rapidly broadening the scope of his activities in recent years, working as a producer of stage art and forming the masked kabuki troupe “Heisei Gigakudan” as a Sento-kun fan club. This exhibition takes a look at Yabuuchi’s more than 30 years of activity through his child-themed works, early sculptures, involvement in “Heisei Gigakudan,” and efforts to preserve cultural assets through the restoration of Buddhist sculptures.
