The store ‘Minatoya esoshi-ten’ opened by Yumeji Takehisa(1884-1934) in 1914, was thronged by young female students eager to sample its decorative paper, picture envelopes and writing paper. Its decorative paper, picture envelopes and writing paper. At the same time as editorial illustrator of “Shin-Shojo” he introduced designs of bags, handkerchiefs and even interior coordination for young girls and their various hobbies. With art nouveau influenced patterns dominating his designs, he shone an element of romance into the everyday lives of girls. This exhibition gives special feature to his designs for young girls and offers an exploration into the life and culture of girls in the Taisho era.
