“100 Years Since Yoshinobu Tokugawa”

Shizuoka City Museum of Art
Finished
The last Shogun of the closing Edo era Yoshinobu Tokugawa (1837-1913) spent 30 years in Shizuoka from the start of the Meiji period. As if to erase the politics of the Shogunate here he absorbed himself in hunting, embroidery, the latest forms of oil painting and photography, transforming from a politician into a cultural figure. This exhibition displays publicly for the first time documents relating to his resignation, along with manuscripts and artifacts from his youth to later days.
