Mutsumi Okada
After graduating from the short course of Joshibi University of Art and Design Mutsumi Okada(b.1953) went on to study in Cologne and Paris, coming to take Cologne as her base for creative production. In this exhibition, marking the first presentation of new work at this gallery in 3 years, Okada presents a set of canvases divided by lines of color of varying widths. At first glance these are highly minimal works, but from these ordered planes protrudes the scent of a twittering mellowness. Taking the emotions stirred from the scene of a park, the sound of music, the words in a novel, she searches out a technique in which to visually express these sensations. Recent works have combined oil paint with metal plates to create a unique aesthetic of color and texture in an ever widening, yet softly meditative world.
