Shouzou Tanaka is known as the whistle-blower of the Ashio copper mine pollution incident, an environmental disaster resulting in the copper poisoning of the Watarase and Tone rivers. On the 100th anniversary of his death, the Maruki Gallery presents panels painted by Mr. and Mrs. Maruki depicting the incident.
