Jotoku Masuda “A Journey of Light and Darkness”

Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels
Finished

Artists

Jotoku Masuda
Born in Goto, Nagasaki, Jotoku Masuda has looked throughout his life into the abyss of human futility taking his departure point from christian persecution and history of war, encompassing the atomic bombing, the Jewish genocide, the Jeju incident and more. And now after the Fukushima disaster he continues to question this senseless situation through his painting. How has our world changed through the experience of 3.11? Or how has it not changed? Art continues the passing down of memory and protects against forgetting, a “compass of the dark” pointing towards our future.
