Katsumochi Iwasa Matabei
With the Rakuchu Rakugai screens having been attributed to the Iwasa Matabei studios in recent years there has been a renewed interest in the historic painter and supposed grandfather of ukiyo-e Katsumochi Iwasa Matabei(1578-1650).
This exhibition gives special place to the famed work “Festival of Hokoku Shrine” depicting the grand festival established by the family of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, by whom the shrine was built. This work is also accompanied by “The Tale of Princess Joruri”, “The Tale of Yamanaka-Tokiwa” “The Tale of Horie” and “Yuna(Service Women in the Bathhouse)”.
