Terumi Sakane “Empathy”

Lower Akihabara
Finished

Artists

Terumi Sakane
“Schizophrenia” has continued to be the focus of Terumi Sakane’s entire body of work, in which strange disquieting images appear of creatures covered in flies, hybrid forms of plants and insects, along with grotesque organisms with inflammed skin, an imaginary world in which there is an unsettling loss of scale.
While the work in this exhibition continues its course upon the theme of “Schizophrenia”, the motifs it uses to grapple this theme are revealed in an expansive diversity, executed with a range of colors and textures, pushing further into the depths of its subject. Through this collection of work we are able to appreciate the strong individuality of Sakane, while at the same time recognize the softness and beauty of her line as a nihonga painter.
