Le Corbusier and Japan with a Focus on the Three Apprentices who Built the National Museum of Western Art

National Archives of Modern Architecture
Finished

Artists

Le Corbusier et al.
First inspired by the designs of European architecture the Japanese modern architectural movement developed its unique sense and has continued to formulate the environment we live in today. The influence of the architectural giant, Le Corbusier(1887-1965), can not be underestimated in all of this. This exhibition places a spotlight on Le Corbusier’s sole work in Japan, the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo(1959), and three of his disciples, Kunio Maekawa, Junzo Sakura and Takamasa Yoshizaka who worked under him in his Paris studio, examining what role Le Corbusier played in the development of Japanese modern architecture.
