Cosmos and Cosmetic both share the same word stem, and in this way perhaps the beautifying of the body is somehow connected to the order and harmony of the universe. Hikaru Miyakawa investigateｓ how the ornamentation of the self might link directly to a primal beauty of the universe, taking up motifs of nail painting (taking the form of stalactites) and a further return to the cave in body cutting reconstructions of the ancient images of the mammoth and other cave paintings.
