Sogo Yokohama Art Gallery
Finished

Artists

Enku, Mokujiki
At different times during the Edo period, Buddhist artists Enku and Mokujiki traveled around Japan creating Buddhist and Shinto statues and winning the deep reverence of many people. While their styles differed, the statues of Enku and Mokujiki both featured gentle smiles as if imbued with prayer. This exhibition presents around 250 of these works by both artists, including newly discovered statues and those on public display for the first time, introducing the charms of these two sculptors.
