Keiko Minami
Keiko MinamiIn the 1950s, having encountered copper-plate printing, Keiko Minami continued to create children’s stories and oil paintings, but as she travelled to Paris and studied under Johnny Friedlaender the course of her career took a new turn, with the Museum of Modern Art, New York and UNICEF using her designs for their postcards, key galleries beginning long term relations with her, and her recognition as an artist ever increasing. After this period Minami continued to work as an artist for a further 40 years, making it difficult to dismiss her early work as mere naivety. This exhibition places a spotlight on the development of her career in the 50s and her gathering focus upon copperplate printing in Paris.
