“Wasuregusa” (Forget-Me-Not) was staged at Spiral Hall from June 21st through July 6th, 1986. Adapted by the playwright Rio Kishida from the German author Wedekind’s turn-of-the 20th century “Lulu plays” (“Earth Spirit” and “Pandora’s Box”), Wasuregusa is a reworking of the original dramas, setting them in Tokyo during the Taisho era (1912–1926). In her first major stage appearance, the actress and fashion model Sayoko Yamaguchi played the main character Ruru to an audience of only 260. This intimate setting allowed for an incredible performance in which viewers could tangibly sense the physical intensity of the actors throughout the space.
Spiral Hall will screen a re-mastered, high-resolution version of “Sayoko Wasurenagusa,” the now-out-of-production 1986 VHS master tape recording of the performance. The film seems to bring this top model and stage artist of the 1980s back to life, filling Spiral Hall with her imposing presence.
