Toshi Shimizu
At the beginning of the 20th century Toshi Shimizu spent extended periods of time painting in New York and Paris and came to be known as one of the leading modern painters of Japan. Having been born in Tochigi city, Shimizu is a most significant figure for Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, which holds over 100 pieces of his work in its collection. This exhibition places a spotlight on his practice during his New York and Paris periods and features 16 selected works including “China Town - New York” 1922 and “Paris at Night” 1926.
