People have long been comparing the shapes and movements of animals to what they see around them, analogizing animals with humans, star constellations, countries, lunar years, the moon and the wider universe. Tawan Wattuya is an artist interested in the characteristics of various animals, especially those that are close to humans, such as dogs, cats, pigs and monkeys. After returning from overseas stays in the USA and Mexico in late October 2016, Wattuya found that Thailand had entered a period of great darkness and sorrow following the death of their king, King Rama IX. Many celebrations and events were cancelled, the public’s normal clothing replaced with mourning dress. In order to record this difficult time, the artist depicted the darkness and sorrow through various animals.
