Memento Mori developed from a period in Medieval European history when plague, religious persecution and war were never far away and death was a close presence. Whilst Memento Mori may be a warning that we may die at any time, they are also a call for us to live each day to the full. Rather than separate entities life and death may be seen as two sides of the same coin, we can not talk of one without the other.
