Artists

Ryota Kuwakubo
Ryota Kuwakubo is the recipient of the 11th Utsunomiya Espérer Award given to promising up-and-coming artists with ties to the city of Utsunomiya. Kuwakubo, born in Utsunomiya in 1971, is a University of Tsukuba Design Department who uses electronics in works he calls “device art.” In recent years he has attracted attention for international exhibitions of his light and shadow installations that call into question the memory and physical perceptions of the viewer. His two most recent works are on display for his Utsunomiya Espérer Award exhibition.
