Asbjørn Hollerud + Torgrim Wahl Sund Exhibition “Kara-com”

Space Dike
Finished
The title, Kara-com, is a constructed term based on the Japanese word “kara” (empty), and “com” from commercials. Com can also refer to computers and the internet. An advertisement is defined as the promotion of a product or a service with the intention of a financial transaction and profit. That promotion is a paid message using mass media to influence a buying public.
The exhibition, Kara-com, is concerned with various types of emptiness that are revealed by the processes of tearing-down the intention of (collected) advertisements. Once the product, or intention, is removed from the advertisement, this emptiness reveals a lack of meaning, a vacuousness, in what remains.
