Hiroshi Ikeda presents new paintings and prints with butterfly motifs in his first exhibition since the 2015 Underground Art show. Butterflies are spiritual entities bridging this world and the next, and Ikeda’s works here focus on their spiritual aspects rather their external beauty. In black and white depictions of butterflies such as swallowtails and the scales on their wings, he creates unique senses of depth achieved with gradations of pearlescent colors.
