The Story of “Bonsai”: History of Bonsai from Ancient Tmes to the Present

Exhibition introducing the history of bonsai trees, starting with bonsai depicted in ancient Chinese murals and picture scrolls from Japan’s middle ages (11th century-16th century), before moving onto the garden maps of Daimyo and ukiyo-e prints. It will also explore how bonsai was loved by politicians of the Meiji Period (1868-1912), and show how Omiya Bonsai Village was established in the early 20th century.
