Mino ceramics, exemplified by Shino and Oribe ware, is credited with the birth and pinnacle of the wabi-cha aesthetic, seen in the glazes and vibrant sculptural beauty of this form of pottery. This three-part exhibition of 120 works introduces the history and present state of Mino ceramics. Part 1 includes 12 works from the Momoyama era (1573–1615) and five pieces by the five Living National Treasures Toyozo Arakawa, Kaiji Tsukamoto, Osamu Suzuki, Takuo Kato, and Kozo Kato. Part 2 features 70 prize-winning and selected works from the 11th International Ceramics Festival Mito. Part 3 displays around 30 pieces by 30 Mino ceramicists paving the way for the future of the art form.
