Maratín Chambi was considered the greatest Peruvian portrait photographer of his generation and he was known for both his technical skill and artistic eye. Chambi was a leading figure in the highly regarded Cusco School of Photography along with Cesar Meza, Sebastián Rodríguez, Juan Manuel Figueroa Aznar, José Gabriel Gonzales, Vidal Gonzales, Fidel Mora Cárdenas, Crisanto Cabrera, and Nikkei Peruvian Eulogio Nishiyama.
