Tadashi Ono “Coastal Motifs”

Institut français du Japon - Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Tadashi Ono
The exhibition is a showcase of France-based photographer Tadashi Ono’s latest photo series. Ono revisited the Tohoku coastline he had first visited in 2011-2012 following the earthquake, and photographed the coastal areas of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima, focusing on the almost 9 trillion yen construction of a 10-meter high sea wall. Ono’s work questioned the relationship Japan has had with the ocean even as it constructs a structure that shuts it off from that very ocean. The series was first shown in 2018 at the international photography festival Kyotographie and has also garnered much attention in France.
