First steps toward disability, sense and co-existence

The National Art Center, Tokyo
Finished

Shoko Kanazawa, Mikio Igarashi, Noe Aoki et al.
This exhibition follows on from the three-day “First Steps toward Art, Design and Disability” event held at the “World Forum on Sport and Culture” organized by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in October 2016. Exploring the idea of disability, sense and co-existence, this project looks to bring individuals together - regardless of whether they have disabilities or not - in order to think about how a truly symbiotic society can be communicated through art. Accessible participatory artworks that relate to the theme of disability, ranging from manga and animation, to games and media art, and encompassing both prize-winning works from the Japan Media Arts Festival and those produced by artists with disabilities will be on exhibit. The idea is to develop a fresh sense of awareness and new approach to ways of living for all. Various events such as talks will also be hosted during the exhibition period.
