This is the first showing of a collection of children’s picture books collected over a 30-year period by French literature scholar Shigeru Kashima. Along with the development of color lithography, picture books became popular from the mid-19th century, reaching a golden age during the Art Deco movement. This exhibit will include work by cartoon and animation pioneer Benjamin Rabier and others, along with books from the ‘Babar the Elephant’ series first published in 1931. Come enjoy a wide variety of French picture books.
