Keiko Kiyohara, Mayumi Kuramoto
Door of the Heart introduces the works of two women artists. Keiko Kiyohara (1955–1987) was an exceptionally promising printmaker who passed away at the age of 31. Although she produced only 30 works (including unfinished pieces) during her ten-year career, each of her prints displays remarkable powers of concentration, and her later works in particular are unrivaled in their electrifying scenes. Chiba Prefecture resident Mayumi Kuramoto (b. 1976) has had an interest in traveling back and forth between reality and “cities of dreams” since she was a child. She describes these extensions of reality viewed from imaginary places in a journal, then replicates them in box dioramas. This exhibition opens the door to the uniquely expressed realities of these artists’ souls.
