Yuki Aoyama
Photographer Yuki Aoyama’s “Schoolgirl Complex” series started in 2006 examines the symbolic existence of school girls within Japanese society while reflecting on the artist’s own adolescence. The series received the Canon New Cosmos of Photography Award in 2007 and a photobook edition published in 2010 became a bestseller. Until now almost all of the works in the series have been shot in natural light, expressing a delicate and ephemeral adolescent yearning. For the “Girls’ School of Delusions” series set at a usually off-limits school at night, however, Aoyama has chosen artificial lighting, evoking the blurry relationship between the thrilling and the erotic. All new works are on display.
